ReefCam · Pre-release

Privacy policy.

How the prepared ReefCam app, its website, and support email handle information. The App Store release is pending.

Updated October 26, 2026. ReefCam is a project by Alex Whedbee, with support operated by AW Ventures, LLC. This policy describes the prepared pre-release app, its ReefCam web pages, and support email. App Store release and live Video Unlock availability are pending.

Media processing and app services

The prepared ReefCam app processes photos and silent videos on your iPhone. It has no ReefCam account system, advertising, developer-operated analytics, or tracking SDK. It does not send your photos, videos, or selected logo to the developer or an image-processing server.

Apple purchase services, user-selected sharing, system backups, and iCloud Photos are separate from the app’s local media processing. They are described below.

Permissions and selected images

The prepared app requests neither microphone nor location access. Video recording is silent. You can manage Camera and Photos permissions in iOS Settings.

Settings, profiles, and local identifiers

App settings, walkthrough preferences, calibration information, and saved lighting profiles are stored locally. A selected watermark logo is kept in app storage.

Calibration and profile metadata can include a coarse phone model, physical lens, and processing version. This helps avoid reusing incompatible settings. The profile is not tied to a unique phone identifier; the app does not use a persistent device, vendor, or advertising identifier. Recalibrate when the phone or lighting changes, including when replacing a phone with another of the same model.

Retained media and session review

The app writes recovery copies before or during processing. A failed render or Photos save can leave an original image, corrected still, finalized clip, or partial recording in Saved locally. These pending files remain in the app’s Application Support storage until successfully saved or removed. An interrupted partial movie may not be playable.

Use Save to Photos to retry saving an eligible retained file, or Remove copy to remove the app’s retained file. Sharing a local file sends a copy to the destination you choose and can leave the app’s copy in place; remove that copy separately when ready.

Successful captures can also have temporary review copies. The prepared build keeps up to thirty photos and three clips for session review. Older review copies can be removed as new captures are added, when a new camera session is created, or by iOS. This review cache is separate from pending recovery files and from copies saved to Photos.

Image metadata, backups, and other copies

ReefCam may preserve metadata already embedded in a captured or imported image, including existing location information. It does not request your current location. Consider embedded metadata when choosing to save or share a file.

System backups may include app data and pending media. Images and videos saved to Photos follow your Apple and iCloud Photos settings. Offloading can retain app data, and backup or restore behavior depends on your settings. Removing a local copy in ReefCam does not remove copies already saved to Photos, a backup, or a sharing destination.

AW Ventures, LLC does not operate a ReefCam media account or server library from which to restore or erase your captures. Keep important results in a destination you control before removing the app or changing phones.

Video Unlock and Apple services

The prepared build integrates Apple StoreKit for product lookup, the planned one-time Video Unlock, purchase receipts, and restoration. ReefCam checks verified StoreKit entitlements on-device. Apple handles payment information and purchase services; ReefCam does not operate a purchase server or receive your payment-card details.

Product lookup, purchase, or restoration may require an internet connection to Apple. Live product setup and signed sandbox verification remain pending. The planned U.S. price is $2.99, with no subscription; the app will show the final localized price before a purchase becomes available.

Apple may process operating-system diagnostics, App Store information, or TestFlight reports and feedback according to your settings and choices. See Apple’s privacy policy.

Sharing and external links

The system share sheet sends the selected file to the app or destination you choose. That destination handles the file under its own settings and practices. Website links open external pages with their own policies.

These web pages

The ReefCam pages are hosted on Bluehost. They do not implement analytics scripts, advertising trackers, forms, application cookies, or browser storage. Their fonts and styles are served from this same website.

Bluehost processes technical information associated with serving website requests, such as an IP address, browser request information, and server logs. This hosting activity is separate from any data processed by the ReefCam app. See the Newfold Digital privacy notice for the hosting provider’s practices.
