Your first portrait

On first launch, follow the four-step illustrated guide or choose Skip. Replay it at any time with the question-mark button on the home screen.

  1. Choose a museum painting on the home screen and tap Make an opening. With Studio Unlock, you can also choose your own photo through the system picker.
  2. Create an oval or rectangle, or draw a freehand opening. Move and resize it, soften the edge, and undo changes. The original image stays intact.
  3. Tap Open camera. Allow camera access, then place your face or another subject underneath the artwork. You can switch between front and back cameras.
  4. Take a photo or record a video. Sound is optional. Review the result, then save to Photos or share with a destination you choose.

Good questions. Useful answers.

What’s free, and what does Studio Unlock add?

All seven paintings, cutout tools, and photo capture are free. Three completed video recordings are included on this device. Studio Unlock is a one-time, non-consumable purchase for your own photo imports and unlimited video recordings. It is not a subscription. The planned U.S. price is $0.99; release and live purchase setup are pending. The app will show the final localized price before purchase.

My camera isn’t opening.

Check ArtWindow’s Camera permission in iOS Settings. Camera access may also be restricted by Screen Time or device management. Close another app that may be using the camera, reopen ArtWindow, and try again.

Can I record without sound?

Yes. Silent videos work without microphone permission. To add sound, enable it before recording and allow microphone access when asked. If access was denied, change the permission in iOS Settings. Check your playback volume if a recorded clip seems silent.

How do I save or share a creation?

Use Save to add a finished photo or video to Photos. ArtWindow requests permission only to add new media. If saving fails, check Photos permission and available storage, then retry. You can also use Share to choose another app or destination.

After saving, open Photos and confirm your result is there before deleting local work or removing ArtWindow.

Will my projects move to another iPhone?

Working projects and finished creations are stored locally on this iPhone and excluded from device backup. Save or share copies you want to keep before changing phones or removing the app. A project retains your selected image and opening so you can reopen it later on this device.

Does deleting a creation remove it from Photos?

Deleting a project or creation in ArtWindow removes its local app copy. Copies you already saved to Photos, Files, or another destination stay there until you delete them from that destination.

How do I restore Studio Unlock?

Tap Your photo on the home screen to open Studio Unlock, then choose Restore purchases using the Apple Account used for the original purchase. An active internet connection may be needed. If restoration fails, retry and contact us with the message shown. Please do not email payment-card details.

Does the browser playground use my camera?

No. The website’s playground uses a drawn smile to illustrate the idea. You can switch paintings, move the opening, change its shape, and resize it. It does not request camera or microphone access, import personal photos, or record video. The iPhone app provides the real camera and export features.

Can I use my own images?

Photo imports are available with Studio Unlock. The system picker gives ArtWindow the image you select without permission to read your entire photo library. Use images you have the right to use and share.
